hi kim my name is kyre i am 16 years old and i had the same thing as you. i had my surgery when i was 11 years old. I also have a 7 inch scar on my neck. I was in the hospital for 2 weeks and out of school for one month. The headaches would paralyze me and i had a hard time holding down food. at the age of 11 i weighed as much as a 7 yr old. I weighed 60 lbs my doctor wanted to put me on steroids and growth hormones. after my surgery i had no more migranes...

Hey Kym,

I had Decompression Oct 9th with Dr. Oro... it rocked.

My incision is about 5 1/2... it stunk, but 7 is a biggie.

Hope you are doing great.

Hi,
I just had my surgery on Aug 14th, and I was warned by my physician on the pain. What I am more surprised with is the on the rt side of my head. It hurts for the hair to move(the hair that was left behind). And then the fact that I couldn't opem my jaw very much. I am doing really well. Besides that I am doing pretty good I believe.

hi, my name is Quinn. My mom has had chiari for a year now and the doctors keep teling her that its not causing her pain, she is not so sure, she is yet to have the surgery. We live in PA and the closest surgion is in NY and her insurance will not cover for anything out of state. We are now trying to find a surgion in PA, as we were for the past 6 months.

my name is martin i am 17 and just had the chiari decompression surgery 5 days ago i was released from the hospital 3 days after and now i feel a lot better except for the stiffness in my neck and its a bit difficult to swallow food and my head is positioned a little funny after laying down for a while. even though the recovery in the hospital is a pain laying flat for 2 days and then raising the head the 3rd day then finally walking the surgery was deff. worth it the headaches were unbelievable mine lasted 5 months straight but now i am feeling a lot better and i will feel even better when the staples come out. i was lucky my chiari doctor was right in my city

This is just my story of my experience with Chiari. Until I was diagnosed, I'd never heard of it, and I just want more people to be aware of it. I'm not a doctor, so don't quote me on any of this stuff - k? If you are looking for information about Chiari Malformation, a lot of the more informative posts are the older ones.
