Pregnant...with Twin Boys!

So since I don't do anything normally on the medical front, I am now 17 weeks pregnant with twin boys (due in December). YAY!!!

We struggled with infertility resulting from my PCOS which led us to try fertility treatments for a year before successfully conceiving twins! PCOS doesn't appear to have any connection to Chiari, but after finally being diagnosed with PCOS and understanding what makes it worse (insulin resistance, obesity, and diabetes), I was able to change my diet and take medication (Metformin) which resulted in my losing over 50 pounds post-decompression. While that alone didn't get me pregnant, I absolutely believe that it helped!

Just like with my Chiari diagnosis, I was able to find a reproductive endocrinologist that I trusted and who provided me with great care! Should you ever need one, I highly recommend Dr. Coffler at Huntington Reproductive Center for infertility as often as I recommend Dr. Oro for Chiari. :)

As I told another Chiarian, pregnancy is nothing compared to living with Chiari!!!

I am so glad to see you are doing well. I have just been diagnosed, and in the process of seeing several specialists, i am in relatively no pain yet, hope to keep it that way. I have decided to start a blog. Come check it out.

hey just wanted to say congrats on your pregnancy!! I am 29 years old and found out last year that I have Chiari type 1. I am in the process of trying to stop the headaches. My doc put me on some pills and I am going to see a specialist in Oct. I don't really know much about it at all which drives me crazy but I am a very busy working mother so it all works out. I have two sets of twin daughters so I can tell you it is fun!! Busy but worth it all! Could you email me and give me more informaition on if I should just have the surgery and get it over with? jamieraefox@hotmail.com Thank you for your time and congrats again!! :) Jamie Rae

Jenn, Just saw your blog and wanted to comment. Enjoy your pregnancy and have fun with the twins when they arrive. I noticed you had Dr. Oro for your decompression surgery. So did I, I'm celebrating my 6 month Anniversary today:) I still get headaches but not like they use to be, I can deal with the little ones. I'm so glad I had the surgery and I feel Dr. Oro was fabulous too. Have a great day!

Congrats on the twins, can't wait to see pic's of them when they get here. I was just diagnosed with Chiari and have been reading everything I can online about it. The pressure headaches are terrible, and I see a neurosurgeon this week. Thank you for being so open with everything you went through. It has been a great help to me and I'm sure many others.

just started reading your blogs and started one of my own. Having surgery Dec 28th for Chiari. Wanted to say Congratulations!! that is awesome!

I do have a question? did you gain the 50 pounds from the surgery? the meds? I noticed you said you lost weight post decompression.

thanks
Gina

I just want to say that I admire you. I was doing research for chiari, since my baby boy (5 years old) was diagnosed with type I, and found your blog spot. If you can send me more info about this stuff, please email me at laurie_7777@hotmail.com. His first neurosurgeon recomended surgery, we're having another appointment next wednesday for a second opinion. As far as I'm concern, he does not have any rare symptoms so we'lle see. I'm glad you're doing super fine. Regards, Laura-Puerto Rico

I can't thank you enough for sharing your experience to us. This is a wonderful post and helped me aa lot as I try to understand this illness.

I don't know I ended up in your blog as I was searching for actos lawsuit. Perhaps because you've mentioned about diabetes in your previous posts. Take care.

This is just my story of my experience with Chiari. Until I was diagnosed, I'd never heard of it, and I just want more people to be aware of it. I'm not a doctor, so don't quote me on any of this stuff - k? If you are looking for information about Chiari Malformation, a lot of the more informative posts are the older ones.
